Our new specifically targeted language and vocabulary features have upped the Quizalize game. If you’re a World Languages Teacher, you do not want to miss these groundbreaking updates.
Brand New, Epic Updates
We have always been hugely proud of our ability to cater to such a wide scope of teachers and we will continue to strive to improve our features for all. However, we have recently had some time to sit back, reflect and refocus.
We have been repeatedly told that Quizalize is particularly beneficial for language teaching and learning and that we have a huge World Language Teachers audience. Therefore, we have shifted our focus slightly, pushing some incredible new features which will especially benefit World Languages Teachers. (That’s not to say that other subjects won’t benefit too though!).
We thought to ourselves, why just be beneficial for language teaching and learning when we can make ourselves the best quiz application for World Languages Teachers?! So that’s exactly what we’ve done!
Overview of new features
Our new language and vocabulary updates feature three components!
- Vocabulary Quiz – Enter any topic and our AI will come up with a list of vocabulary for the topic and generate questions for you to choose from. Choose TWO languages, and the questions are in one language, eg: “What is the French for “mother”?” and the answers are in the second language.
- Reading comprehension – Enter any topic and our AI will generate a passage of text based on these options and any input you provide. Then you will have a chance to review the text, and if you are satisfied our AI will create reading comprehension questions for you to choose from
- Fill in the blank – Enter any topic and our AI will generate fill in the blank questions on the topic for you to choose from. Choose only ONE language and the question and answers are both in the same language.
The best and most impressive thing though, is that we now have over 40 languages for teachers to choose from. These languages are standards aligned and allow you to pick the level of your students’ understanding.
As well as this, our AI allows you to mix languages in your quizzes. For example, you could ask a question in English, but the students must answer in French. The options are endless!
Vocabulary Quiz
When using the vocabulary quiz you have the option to enter a topic or to paste your own vocabulary list. This is such a wonderful tool for World Language Teachers who are drilling vocabulary with their students. Teachers have the option to alter and add questions and words if you wish, making your lessons as personalized as possible. This vocab quiz would be an excellent addition to any subject learning new vocabulary.
For the “vocabulary” generator you choose TWO languages, and the questions are in one language, eg: “What is the French for “mother”?” and the answers are in the second language.
Reading Comprehension
In reading comprehension, you also have the option to enter a topic or paste a vocabulary list. As well as this, you are free to select the style of comprehension you would like to give to your students. These include…
- Story
- Conversation
- Article
- Custom
Once you have selected the level and the language of the text and questions, our AI tool will generate a passage for you. You have the ability to edit the passage before going on to generate the questions, which you can also edit, alter and add to if you wish.
You can then provide the reading comprehension to the class before assigning your students the questions on Quizalize. We love seeing the imaginative stories that our AI tool comes up with!
Fill in the Blank
Fill in the blank follows suit and gives you the option to enter a topic or paste a vocabulary list. Once you select your language and level, the Quizalize AI tool will generate your questions. These are editable sentences and answers. For the “Fill in the blanks” generator you choose only ONE language and the question and answers are both in the same language.
The reason why we added the “Fill in the blanks” generator was specifically because the “Vocabulary” genarator only works if all your students are from the same country. If you were teaching, say, English, to students in London who came from lots of different countries, then the “Vocabulary” generator isn’t helpful, but the “Fill in the blanks” generator is still helpful.
If you are teaching students who are all from the same country, then all the generators are useful, if you are teaching students who come from multiple different countries only the Fill in the Blanks and Reading Comprehension generators are useful.
Further benefits for World Languages Teachers
We are proud to have also introduced our brand new time savers! These allow you to paste a YouTube link, long text or align to a standard or skill in seconds. When doing this you will be asked what language you are teaching in, meaning you can adapt according to who and what you are teaching.
As well as this, when a teacher first logs into Quizalize, the landing page immediately presents our starter quizzes where you will find the option to select ELA, ESL and World Languages quizzes.
